TRAPPED INDIVIDUALS

“Can we really become who we are or are we limited by our options? Is there a “deeper self” within each person or is this idea just an illusion created by a society driven by individualism?”
Individualism is associated with the persuit of perfection for years. We want to bring out the best in ourselves. But actually, who decides when we are perfect? This opinion is created by our environment. If you’re not perfect, then you might not be accepted and in this way you will become a stranger in your own environment.
This is exactly what we saw in the exhibition of photographer Henri Verhoef. The models on the powerful pictures seemed to lose themselves in the most natural places on earth. On their way to perfection, they were trapped in a natural environment.

What will happen if the pursuit of perfection continues? Will we become people with a lack of empathy? Or is this just like the survival of the fittest and will only the most perfect people be recognized? Let’s hope one day we realize that it’s better for our quality of life to go back to our core. So in the end we can be who we truly are.
