An implausible dream fitting to our future. Beautiful, impressive, a bit scary. These words went trough my thoughts while my eye cached the series of body jewels “Energy Addicts” designed by Naomi Kizhner.

The “Energy Addicts” collection is a form of smartfashion or also called wearables. The jewels of this line pierce the skin, so they are stuck on the body. The collection consists of three different designs; The E-pulse Conductor, Blood-Bridge and Blinker. They are designed to collect energy from the human body, all three in a different way. The E-pulse Conductor which is worn on the back collects electric signals sent from the brain. The Blood-Bridge is stuck in a vein, when the blood is flowing the wheel inside of the jewel is moving. Blinker is attached at the nose, and collects energy from eye-blinks.

The collection don’t actually work, but it shows an impression of a possible future. Just like time is changing, our appearance does. Wearables are popping up in the streetscene, take for instance (sport)-watches and the Google-glass. They can be attached to the digital world and observate our bodies. Not crazy if we think about the fact that we live in a world where digitalization combinated with technology have never been so important.

Wearables are connected to the human body and the digital world. But the “Energy Addicts” collection is innovative. Because it is using the power of the human body. In the future there might be people who would like to wear this beautiful jewel. Because can you imagine a life without energy?
