SPORTIVE URBANITES

The city can be seen as a new sport attribute. Sport moves from the gym to the outside air of the city. We can see that more and more people work out in the inner city by the map of “Flowing Data”. They create graphs which are showing where people run in different cities around the world.

The fact that people do workout in and around the inner city has to with busy life of our (growing population) urbanites. They are looking for easy ways to workout. I see a split in our sportive urbanites, there are two groups with different needs. In both groups, sports plays an important role in relation to Quality Of Life and physical wellbeing. The first group is completely independent and feels comfortable in a world of anonymity. This group uses the technology. During their workout they use a suitable App. The second group want to socialize beyond just workout. By exercising in a group, they have more discipline and perseverance. The last group does see social wellbeing as an important part of Quality Of Life as well.

The last group is important for sports entrepreneurs. Urbanites have a need for sports on a creative and innovative and preferably sustainable way. New sport activities are developing, like City-Runs and bootcamp-classes. For example bootcamp club “Rauw” in Amsterdam. Their oneliner is: “Wij maken van Amsterdam jouw sportschool”. Which means that they are using the city Amsterdam as a sport attribute. They use the streets and parks of Amsterdam in a creative way to workout.

Isn’t it COOL that the sport environment in urban cities is changing. In this way we save space in our cities and we don’t need electricity. This new way of “urban exercise” contributes to a sustainable world. Technology creates new opportunities daily. In the FUTURE sportclubs like “Rauw” will defeat the “sport”-technology. Because in cities of anonymity values like solidarity will return. Work together on condition and strength in an urban setting is the ideal solution for our urbanites.
