Our food is running out. If we continue to eat like we do now, we do need three earths to feed us in 2050. It’s clear that we must change our production processes, we need to look for new opportunities in food industry. Therefore, many scientists did research on new supply in recent years.
A frequent solution against food shortage is seen in seaweed for several reasons. Because of the cultivation at sea, there is no wastage of freshwater. Therefore we don’t need precious and scare farmland. But most notable is the fact that the cultivation of seaweed contributes to restore our oceans. Seaweed can be our new source of super-food, seaweed is full of high quality protein and other nutrients which are good for human body
Some Dutch scientist did research due seaweed, they travelled the world and made a documentary about food shortage an their resolution: seaweed. Back in Amsterdam they created a new concept: The Weed Burger. It’s a vegetarian burger full of vitamins, minerals, and above all high quality protein from seaweed and algae. This seaweed burger is extremely healthy and very sustainable.
Isn’t it COOL that this burger contributes to a good environment and personal health. Seaweed will be an important part in the food industry. Provisionally agriculture remains important in the Netherlands. But recently the first Dutch seaweed producer has opened her business. At his moment seaweed didn’t reach the “chasm” yet. It will take a couple of years but I guess that seaweed will be a normal nutrient in the FUTURE. Restaurants will add more meals with seaweed and the shelving’s of grocery’s will be filled with seaweed related products.
