FOOD PERFECTION

Beauty ideals.. For a long time the body only was seen as perfect if it was thin long and without imperfections. But lately there is a lot to do if we speak about the perfect body, different and imperfect bodies are more accepted. Now I may sound a bit weird to you, but this “striving” for perfection we can see in food products as well. Let me explain this. Think about when you go to the grocery. Fruit and vegetables all look the same. Ever seen a crooked cucumber? No, they are not perfect and are therefore not sold. Also food must fulfill a certain ideal of beauty. Food should fit the picture perfect if it would be placed in the grocery. Ridiculous if we think about the amount of food-waste and food-shortages.

Due the transparency we have gained a lot of information about food and its production. More and more people know that the food industry is playing unfair against human, animal and environment. This creates counter reactions. We have the need to deal fairly with our people and planet. So there are a lot (upcoming) communities who join forces against issues like foodwaste. We want to prevent food waste and we realize that perfection is not always the best. Organization Kromkommer does agree the fact that food doesn’t have to be picture perfect. So this organization created a krommunity. This krommunity ensures that imperfect food will be eaten.

Isn’t it COOL that this Krommunity shows an aversion against the prevailing world of perfection. Through transparency everyone can be aware of what is happening with our food. At this moment we only have this Krommunity who is fighting against ‘food imperfection’. But in the FUTURE imperfect food will be accepted, just like what we see in the appearance sector. I think in a couple of years the amount of grocerys who sell imperfect food will rise.
