Lately there has been a lot to do about the ideal image of woman. Thin models are not accepted anymore within our society. Different designers are using models with more curves on the catwalk. And influential fashion companies are using plus size models in their advertising campaigns. It’s a good sign that the ideal image of women is changing.
But I think something is forgotten when we talk about acceptance of different types and sizes of women. I think it is unfair that the focus is now only on women with curves. Think about lingerie advertisings. Have you ever seen a women with less than an A-cup for a lingerie advertisement? No, this models are in contrast to the models in fashion industry always curved. About this advertisements with curved models, most people will not complain (except the fact that they are still too thin). Really unfair when you think about the amount of women who just don’t have curves. And if the woman in the lingerie advertisement don’t have breasts then fake curves will be created by a maximizer bra. Think about the advertisement of HEMA, were an androgyny model suddenly has breasts. Actually we should not approve this.
I think the lingerie industry is outlining a very wrong image, where woman without breasts are not accepted and are not seen as feminine. A lot of woman will feel forced to use a maximizer or push-up bra. They will feel inferior and less feminine when they want to buy lingerie. Besides this fact there are a lot of woman who have to remove their breasts because of breast cancer. But unfortunately a lingerie advertising with small or maimed breasts we will not see on TV, magazines and internet.
Luckily I found the website www.valentinenyc.com. A company created by Whitney Brown and Paloma Jonas. “They conceived Valentine after recognizing a gap in the market for cool, comfortable, and affordable lingerie – especially for women with smaller busts”. It shows that we don’t need breasts to be impressed by beautiful lingerie and feeling feminine.
Isn’t it COOL that this company shows that women without curves can be really beautiful in lingerie. I hope that the aversion to the ideal image of women will be highlighted from both sides. So that women who just don’t have curves also will be accepted and seen as feminine. At this time there are a lot of changes in fashion magazines and on the catwalk. In the FUTURE companies like valentinenyc will make a statement in lingerie industry. And hopefully the major lingerie companies will change their models. So women without busts will be accepted. And the diversity of the ideal image within this sector will increase as well.
