An urban woman is walking down the busy streets. She is tough, confident and not afraid of new challenges. She doesn’t want to be judged by her looks and certainty not by her body. It’s about her qualities. She strikes by her confidence. In Amsterdam we saw the collection of ready to FISH by Ilja. A comfortable collection for confident woman.
The clothes fell loosely along the body. Almost every part of the body was covered, except for some parts of the legs and arms. The clothes looked very comfortable, because of the loose and soft, thin fabrics. A lot of the skirts, sweaters and tops were a-symmetrical. Most of the clothes were made in solid colors like black, grey, blue and brown. Striking was the bright green colour that came back several times. A few pieces of the new collection had a graphic print. Bags were made of plastic. The plastic was reflected by a jacket and covered the necks of the models. The shoes, wearable heels with big metallic details, designed by United Nude, were classy, rough and provoking just as the collection.
With this innovative rectangular silhouette Ready to FISH by Ilja is showing that women don’t want to be judged by their body. They want to be complimented by her skills. The a-symmetric and loose shapes manifest the fact that women don’t have to be perfect. We have not been able to translate the purpose of the plastic and shine through items in this collection. But it might have something to do with self-protection or transparency. The “Take me as I am”-thing.
It seems like women are in need of more comfortable clothes nowadays. Not strange if you think about the fact that they are businesswomen, mommys and a best friend at the same time. Isn’t it COOL that the feminine silhouette is changing to a more masculine silhouette. With this collection they can feel comfortable and feminine at the same time. In the FUTURE this changing silhouette will break trough a wider audience. Women don’t have to wear tight clothes anymore to be accepted.
