“I’m fascinated with these boys who are so hard but then they’re also so sensitive, I think it’s just a generation of boys. So, I think it’s my own fascination with this guy that I try to translate into a way of dressing them.” Astrid Andersen
Like I told you before the roles between men and woman are changing. Not only the social position of men is changing, neither is their emotional behavior. Men is acting more and more like woman these days. They are not afraid to show their feelings with others and show their sensitive side. It’s a signal that we are not only see by the way they dress. Also the music industry has to do with this masculinity <> feminity trend. Remember where rappers used to rap about hoes, guns and weed they are showing their feelings nowadays. While Beyonce is making tracks like “Diva is the female version of a hustler” Lil Wayne and Eminem are showing their inner deep emotions with tracks like “Mirror”. Men are acting more femine and woman more masculine.
Designer Astrid Andersen translated this signal into her new collection, which she showed at London Fashionweek. Astrid Andersen is always been busy in the field of streetwear. But this time she brought her streetwear collection to a whole new level. She showed the softness and sensitivity of men. The models where macho, muscular, attractive and very masculine. But the clothes they were wearing showed the opposite. She was dressing these huge attractive men in fabrics like satins and fake fur with sweet colors like babyblue and grey. For instance these models were dressed in fur coats, crop-tops, off-shoulder tops and printed trousers.
Isn’t it COOL that (hopefully) men will be inspired by this collection. So they can dress their feelings. This “sweet man” thing coincides with the trend masculinity <> femininity. In the FUTURE it’s okay for men to be dressed in different kinds of fabrics like fur and satins. It’s no shame to be who you want to be and show your feelings even if you’re tough guy.
